Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Marina Beacon Director, the Academic Coordinator will aid in the development and implementation of academic-infused program components for after school, daytime, and summer programs. Additionally, the Academic Coordinator will aid in the design and implementation of grade transition programming for incoming 6th graders and outgoing 8th graders. The Academic Coordinator will support alignment between school day and out of school time by incorporating themes and topics from school day classes into afterschool enrichment and recreational activities, as well as by creating opportunities for targeted academic support according to participants’ specific academic needs. The Academic Coordinator will collaborate with Beacon staff, school day counselors, teachers, and other learning support professionals to identify and accommodate student needs in order to best support closing academic achievement gaps.
Job Responsibilities
Classroom & Program Support
· Partner with school day teachers, staff, and families to ensure appropriate academic support for students
· Manage the school’s “Learning Lounge”, maintaining the space and ensuring tutors have necessary materials and support
· Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations
Events & Clubs
· Organize and lead a minimum of two academic-based school-wide events or workshops (i.e. STEAM Day, Science Fair)
· Hold a STEAM based afterschool club at least 2x/week
· Operate a weekly lunch club to support student sense of belonging
Administrative Support
· Maintain accurate records of attendance in “Learning Lounge”
· Maintain accurate records of student grades and academic growth
· Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations
Qualifications:
· 21 years or older
· BA/BS or equivalent experience required
· At least 6 months of experience working with youth
· Must meet minimum SFUSD IA requirements
· Strong organizational, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
· Available Monday-Friday ~9:00-5:30pm
· Understanding of community- and school-based programming based upon Youth
· Development Practices & Principles, the Common Core State Standards, and Restorative Practices.
· Current YMCA approved CPR and First Aid Certification (can complete upon hire)
· Fingerprint background check clearance
· TB test clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree with teaching credential or passing score on NCLB Exam
· Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, and/or Arabic

Salary Description
The Academic Coordinator position rate is $37.00 to $38.00 based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with budget approvals and requirements for the position.
