Water Fitness Instructor


General Function

The Peninsula Family YMCA is looking for an instructor to lead a variety of styles of aquatic exercise class programming. Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatic Exercise Instructor is responsible for leading safe and effective exercise classes and workshops when necessary. S/he will be responsible for maintaining the highest levels of customer service and professionalism while delivering safe, effective health & fitness aquatic exercise programs to members and guests. S/he will adhere to any and all guidelines of the Aquatics and Group Exercise Departments.


Know How______________________________________________________________

Group Exercise experience background and appropriate certifications are mandatory. Experience working with diverse age groups is desired. The ideal candidate will be motivated, energetic, have a strong professional background in teaching to a wide range of ages. Classes include curriculum in Water Aerobics, Water Walking, Arthritis, and Masters Swim. The ideal candidate should possess the knowledge, experience, and curriculum to present and implement new and innovative water fitness classes. Proficiency in multiple areas is desired. Position is part-time. Instructors must have reliable transportation. Prefer someone that will be with us long term to grow and expand our aquatic exercise programming.

Skills and Requirements


1. Minimum 18 years of age.

2. YMCA Water Fitness instructor certification, or equivalent

3. CPR and First Aid Certification*

4. Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper skill techniques. Help to mentor newly certified and other instructors.

5. YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant (YASA) or equivalent certification*

* Within 30 days of employment, or at first available training.
