Intern Description:

 

The YMCA of San Francisco is seeking an intern to assist its Financial Development Department. The intern will work directly with the Associate Director of Development Systems in support of the Financial Development Team on various aspects of nonprofit fundraising including: gift processing, special events, grants and foundation research, major donor prospecting, and direct mail appeals. This position is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with professional staff in a dedicated and fast-paced development department. The intern’s main tasks include:

 

• Supporting Pledge Administration team with gift processing, acknowledgment and follow-up to donor requests.

• Helping with the preparation and coordination of fundraising events.

• Researching and compiling accurate profiles of prospective funders as well as maintaining accurate records in donor database.

• Providing administrative support to the Financial Development team as needed on various tasks.

 

Skills and Requirements

Qualifications:

 

• Undergraduate degree or working towards undergraduate degree

• Excellent verbal and written command of English.

• Ability to conceptualize, write and edit letters and proposals.

• Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge is preferred

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, & PowerPoint, email and internet applications.

• Must be available for a minimum of 3 months.

• Capacity to work with people from all levels within the Association, including CEO, all levels of branch staff, Association Board volunteers and donors to the YMCA of San Francisco.

• Knowledge of standard office equipment.

• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, a professional demeanor and to represent the organization in a positive manner at all times.

 

Additionally, the candidate should have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work productively and independently within a demanding environment. Strong organizational skills, self motivation, flexibility, and reliability are also essential.
