Outdoor Education Program

We take children out into nature to embrace the sun, wind, rain and fog and build an awareness of the connections between humans and nature.

We offer hands-on learning and residential stays at our beautiful site in the Marin Headlands. We believe in spending time outdoors, where students can touch a sea star or anemone in nearby tidepools; see a red tail hawk on its migratory flight; or smell native wildflowers in bloom.

We can arrange walking tours of our local tidepools and beaches, the historic Point Bonita Lighthouse, the Marine Mammal Center, a freshwater lagoon, nearby Nike Missile sites, or remnants of other coastal defense systems.

Night programs include academic programs such as marine mammals, marine biology/oceanography and a town hall event or the traditional campfire or night hikes

With our school systems stressing the basics these days, your program--ecology, conservation, respect for the earth--is essential. Greg Hollady, Van Gorder/Sparks, NV

Activities were designed to engage students in learning, giving insight and information that reinforced their studies in the science areas we just completed.

I could name a million things I learned that could help me later in life. But I think the most important one is to protect the habitat we call earth.

Urban School of Environmental Education

This an environmental outreach program designed to introduce students to the natural history of their local communities. We specialize in meeting the needs of city schools by providing high-quality, low-cost environmentally specific programming. Classes are divided into groups of 10-15 students led by a professional naturalist trained in local environmental lore and issues.

The Urban School focuses on:

  • Bringing alive grade-specific science standards right at the school site
  • Understanding our urban human environments and appreciating local habitats, both pristine "natural" parks and altered urban neighborhoods
  • Exploring themes of cooperation, group building, community, and stewardship
  • Hiking to urban wildernesses at the local school, parks, or other nearby wilderness sites
