A Step Ahead

Healthy and Fit Teens Program  A collaborative project between University of California, San Francisco Pediatric Lifestyles Clinic and Peninsula Family YMCA. 
This is a 12-week program designed for youth ages 13-17 who carry excess weight. Through guided activities in nutrition/ cooking and physical activity, participants will increase knowledge, practice healthy cooking, increase daily activity and physical fitness. Progress will be measured through content pre/post-tests, daily step trackers, facility (gym) usage and Program Leader observations. There are two weekly sessions dedicated to physical activity and hands on cooking.

Hiking with Larry

Take the Scenic route to healthy living Tour the wilderness of the peninsula with a well versed hiker, Larry. He takes groups of adults on to the many trails around the San Mateo county. Hikes are from easy to moderate, and between 3-9 miles long. Join his group and build on your fitness and mental health outdoors.

Pedaling for Parkinson's

Starting January 7 on Tuesdays at 2:15pm Pedaling a bicycle may change the life of someone with Parkinson’s disease. Research conducted at the Cleveland Clinic showed a 35% reduction in symptoms by the simple act of pedaling a bicycle at a rapid pace – optimally 80-90 revolutions per minute. *Medical clearance forms are required.
