Lifeguarding at the Presidio Community YMCA
Want to be a lifeguard?
Every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger. Drowning is the sixth leading cause of unintentional injury death for people of all ages, and the second leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 14 years.*
These daunting statistics motivate our lifeguarding staff on a daily basis. If you are ready to learn skills that you can take with you for the rest of your life, become a YMCA Lifeguard. Our training courses use techniques endorsed by the American Heart Association, and upon completion, you will be certified in American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR/AED/Oxygen training and American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid, as well as our specified YMCA Lifeguarding course.
