Personal Training

At the Y, we want to help you, not just in achieving an active, healthy lifestyle in body, but in mind and spirit as well. Our personal trainers will focus on your needs and abilities and help you proceed towards wellness in the manner that is best for you. There are no hard-sells or heavy pressure to continue training. We understand that a gym environment can be intimidating or overwhelming. We are here to help you feel confident and comfortable with your workout and to answer your questions. Through our personal training course, you will increase your muscle mass while burning calories and also pick up healthy and effective exercise habits that you can use for the rest of your life. Our personal trainers will tailor the workout to your needs and will help you in your quest to attain peak physical fitness.

Danielle has been personal training and teaching group exercise classes for over a decade. Danielle earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from Ohio Northern University. Danielle is a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), a certified personal trainer with the American Council on Exercise (ACE), and a certified group exercise instructor with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). Danielle holds an Outdoor Fitness certification and has completed a Corrective Exercise and Structural Assessment internship with The Biomechanics Method. She is currently working on other corrective exercise certifications to further her knowledge in helping clients improve posture, correct muscle imbalances, and eliminate chronic pain. Danielle believes in the importance of having fun, being healthy, and keeping life in balance.

Scarlett fell in love with the movement benefits of Pilates’ exercises after her first class. Her blend of east and west coast training, results in rigorous and energetic training sessions. She is passionate about inspiring her students to connect to their body. Her beliefs are rooted in the need for the general population to improve in at least one of the areas of: coordination, flexibility, balance and strength.

Wellness Consultations

Are you new to the Presidio YMCA? Are you tired of your same old workout? Do you find you use the gym less because nothing excites you? Then come and sign up for a Wellness Consultation! Our Wellness Coaches are not only versed on how to exercise the different muscle groups but about all the Presidio YMCA has to offer you—from Group Exercise classes to Aqua Fit programming to having fun with your family and friends. We take pride in being the ambassadors to the branch and welcome your questions. We look forward to meeting you soon.

Wellness Clinics

Clinics are a benefit of your membership. Learn how to use a kettle bell, medicine ball, free weights and do the perfect abdominal crunch with our personal trainers.

Clinics are one hour long, held twice weekly and free. First come, first served- sign up at our wellness station at the Main Post Gymnasium.

 

Personal Training Overview

  1. Sessions are 55 minutes in length.
  2. We request that clients make any schedule changes within at least 48 hours in advance of the appointment.
  3. If cancellations are made less than 24 hours in advance, the client will be charged for the full session. Please call your Trainer directly; messages cannot be left with the Member Services Desk.
  4. Clients are expected to begin working out at the start time of the scheduled appointment. A late start time does not entitle a client to a session longer than the scheduled appointment.
  5. Payments must be made prior to the start of the first session.
  6. Payments are made at the Member Services Desk.
  7. Clients must sign their initials on the personal training form upon completion of each session.
  8. Clients must adhere to YMCA fitness floor policies and procedures on page 39.
  9. The initial package purchased includes a fitness assessment, which may comprise all or part of the first session. Fitness assessments will be repeated every six months in a similar fashion.
  10. Members with pre-existing medical conditions may be asked to present a doctor’s release prior to starting a program.
  11. Packages expire three months from the date of purchase.
  12. We encourage clients to follow Trainers’ recommendations regarding warm-up/cool-down before/after session.

 

Personal Training Possibilities: What If...

You wish to switch trainers:

Our goal is to provide you the best possible partnership with your Trainer. Trainers work as a team; there are no hard feelings if you wish to switch. Plus, doing so may reinvigorate your workout or provide a new perspective.

You want to leave feedback:

We really appreciate members’ suggestions and comments. We want to provide you with the best experience possible and we take what we hear from you seriously. You may submit feedback directly to Trainers, or contact Kate Sheppard at 415-447-9648 or ksheppard@ymcasf.org.

You’re running late:

If you are running late we appreciate a courtesy call to the trainer directly. This will also ensure your trainer knows to wait for you past the 20-minute grace period. Due to scheduling, sessions cannot run long.

You need to reschedule:

Please call your trainer directly, ideally more than 48 hours ahead (at least 24 hours to avoid charge).
