Adults can find classes for all abilities in the low-impact water environment. With two pools to choose from, you will find just the program to suit you. Our community oriented classes provide motivation and a great time.

Classes

Beginning Water Exercise

This class is designed as an introduction to water aerobic fitness. It%u2019s a great low impact workout with a fun social environment. This class is designed to help relieve minor joint and muscle discomfort and pain. You will also get a good lesson on stretching in an aquatic setting. This class is taught exclusively in our warm water pool.

Water Aerobics (Shallow)

Key elements of this class include a low impact cardiovascular workout, strength training, flexibility and muscle toning. This class takes place in the shallow end of our large pool.

Appropriate for recreational and competitive athletes who do not have any physical limitations.

Water Aerobics (Deep)

Challenge yourself with this popular deep water aerobics class. This class focuses on building endurance during an intense, no impact, total body workout. Flotation exercise belts are provided to all participants.

Participants should be comfortable swimming in deep water.

Masters Swim Team

Masters Swim Team is for intermediate to advanced swimmers led by experienced coaches who specialize in stroke technique and building endurance in a team environment.

Requirements

Ability/Workouts:

It is advised that prospective Masters be comfortable with swimming 2000 yards in one hour. Workouts are comprised of kicking, pulling & swimming different strokes. Ranges 2,500 to 4,000 yards. Lanes are adjusted for appropriate speeds as needed.

Attendance:

Members of the Masters Team can attend any number of workouts. Regular attendance is not required, however it is recommended that participants train on a consistent schedule.

Coaches:

Masters Team coaches are experienced coaches who specialize in technique and endurance training. First time participants should introduce themselves to the coach(es) and tell the coach(es) the following information: swimming background, current goals, physical limitations and whether technical feedback is desired.

Competitions:

The Presidio Aquatics Masters Team is a registered team of United States Swimming. Participants may join as US Masters Swim Members and compete in sanctioned events if desired. Presidio YMCA Masters are not required to participate in competitions.

Group Swim Lessons

The Presidio YMCA Aquatics swim lesson program is a skill-based learning program dedicated to developing swimmers who are comfortable, confident, and independent in the water. Group Swim Lessons began at the YMCA over 100 years ago, and with all that experience behind us we have created a program that cannot be matched in quality, safety, or fun.

All of our instructors go through an extensive training and certification process. YMCA swim lessons also include personal safety, personal growth, water sports/games and rescue components. We strive to teach lessons with our four core values: honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.

We offer a myriad of programming for all ages, so there is something for everyone in your family.

Adult Group Lessons 1

This course is oriented for the most elementary of swimmers and makes use of the therapy pool. Concepts include basic body position front/back, introduction to basic breathing rhythm and water orientation. This class will help participants overcome fear of the water or lack of comfort in the water and will teach participants the basics of how to swim.

Adult Group Lessons 2

Prerequisite: Comfort in each of the concepts covered within Psychology of Swimming I. This class builds off the principals learned in Psychology of Swimming I and introduces fundamental freestyle and backstroke technique. Participants will transition from the therapy pool into the competitive pool and further develop water orientation and swimming skills.

Monthly Ongoing Payment

The Presidio Community YMCA swim lesson program is thrilled to offer the ease and convenience of a one-time registration, monthly bank draft system!

Benefits

Register only ONCE
Unlike our old system that required re-enrolling every 4-6 week session, with the bank draft system once you enroll you are guaranteed your spot from that point forward.

Make up Classes

Make up classes are still available. If you need to miss a swim class, one free make-up class per month is available. Contact Don Conrad for make ups.

Make up Policies

  • All participants are allowed 1 make up lesson opportunity per each month of enrollment (Based on 4 weeks of lessons per month=1 make up opportunity).
  • All make up opportunities must be used within 30 days of the missed lesson, make up lessons are not transferable from month to month.
  • In order to be scheduled for make up lessons the participant must be currently enrolled in the group swim lesson program.
  • If you schedule a make up lesson and either do not participate or are not able to attend the make up opportunity will be lost. (In other words, You cannot make up make up’s).
  • Make up lessons may be scheduled if any of the following occur- Pool emergency, Red Cap drill, Pool closure due to contamination, pool closure due to facility safety concerns, or unforeseen changes in general pool scheduling.
  • ALL Make up lessons need to be arranged Via email and can be sent to Don Conrad at- dconrad@ymcasf.org
  • Make up participants must be signed in at the front desk of the letterman pool in order to participate in the make up lesson.
  • Make up scheduling is subject to availability.

Adult Private/Semi Private Personal Training

Personal Training is available for intermediate to advanced level swimmers who are looking for guided/personalized endurance training. See the benefit from working one on one with a personal training swim instructor. Personal training swim lessons are tailored to the needs of each individual participant. With a range of instructors and times throughout the week, personal training swim lessons are the perfect alternative to focusing on specific swimming skills. Each session is 30 minutes in length.

Swim Coaching 1:1- Competitive Analysis

*Intermediate level adult swimmer or higher

Technique and proficiency is our focus for our 30 minute Coach 1:1 sessions. Spend 30 minutes with a professional coach to help you improve your stroke. Coach training sessions are 45 minutes of working one-on-one with a swimming coach to help you train for any event. Technique is always an emphasis, but here you will also get a full workout. See yourself swim and get technical tips to help you improve your swimming. You will be video taped above and below water. Watch the video with your coach and compare yourself to national champions. The DVD of you swimming is included!

Video Analysis Clinics

Video clinics are a chance to get stroke techniques from professional coaches and guest coaches including national and international champion swimmers. Video clinics will include coach tips, video analysis (above water and below water video) and a take home DVD with your video and comparison to national swimmers. Small ratios of 1:10 with a 20 participant maximum and two hours with your coach make this a great chance to see yourself and improve quickly. This program is suitable for adults and children level fish or higher.

Pool Schedule

Our large pool hosts numerous programs including lap and recreational swim. Our small pool is adjacent to our cooler large lap swimming pool, and is ideal for children's recreational swim because of its warmer temperature.
