Adult Group Lessons 1

Every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, eight are people aged 14 or older. Drowning is the sixth leading cause of unintentional injury death for people of all ages. Among adults aged 15-44 years, drowning is the 10th leading cause of death.*

For this reason, we offer elementary swim lessons to adults wishing to learn how to swim at our Letterman Pool. Participants will use our shallow therapy pool to become familiar with the water, as well as learn the basics of body position and breathing rhythm. We know that new adult swimmers may be nervous or fearful in the water, and through these adult group lessons, we help alleviate your stress and introduce you to basic water skills.

Adult Group Lessons 2

This class builds on skills learned in Adult Group Lessons 1, and helps you develop the floats and breathing patterns you learned in the last class into fundamental freestyle and backstroke techniques. We will also use this class to transition from the shallow therapy pool to the competitive pool, introducing you to swimming in deeper water in a safe, relaxed atmosphere. We will also go over how to use your body in the safest and most expedient ways possible. Going on a vacation? Want to finally get in the deep end with your kids? Are you ready to swim laps like a pro? By the end of this class, you’ll have water confidence that you can use anywhere.

Saturdays 1:00-2:00pm
Sundays 8:00-9:00am

Adult Group Lessons 2:

Adult Private/Semi Private Personal Training

We at the Y are offering water-based personal training for intermediate to advanced swimmers who are wishing to enhance their endurance while getting a good, low-impact workout. Our certified staff will assist you in all four strokes, while also increasing your speed and stamina in the water, exercising nearly every muscle group in your body. Each individual participant will have a different experience through our personal training program, but all will find themselves stronger and more coordinated by the end of the course. Our instructors are available throughout the day and all sessions last 30 minutes each. Let the Presidio Y help you achieve your health goals.

Schedule
Private lessons are offered 7 days a week throughout the day. We work with you to find the best instructor and time slot that fits your needs. Call Will Fisher to book your session times and dates.

Swim Coaching 1:1- Competitive Analysis*

*Intermediate level adult swimmer or higher

Improve your stroke and update your workout in the water through our personal, one on one coaching sessions. During the sessions, our certified USA swimming coaches spend 30 or 45 minutes working to help you train for any event you want, from the 50 Freestyle to the 200 Butterfly. We will tape your swimming with an underwater camera and use it to help you improve your technique, as well as offer pointers on what and how to practice your stroke. Our coaches guarantee that one session with them will provide you with accurate and to-the-point help about improving your speed and technique, and you will leave the session able to move more effectively.

Make up Classes

Make up classes are still available. If you need to miss a swim class, one free make-up class per month is available. Contact Don Conrad for make ups.

This great, no-impact workout will get your blood pumping and your muscles moving in a class that focuses on building strength, endurance and coordination. Our certified instructors will provide plenty of opportunities for you to use group work, giving you many opportunities to forge new relationships while getting your daily dose of exercise. This class is appropriate for competitive or serious recreational athletes.

Aqua Fit: Total Conditioning (Advanced)

The Aqua Fit: Total Conditioning class is the perfect blend of strenuous exercise in a low-risk setting that will improve your cardio, your muscle strength & toning and your flexibility, all at once. This class provides great physical therapy and mental training that allow you to endure the most intensive workouts. The Aqua Fit: Total Conditioning class is appropriate for serious recreational athletes who do no have any physical limitations or previous injuries.

Deep Water Aerobics (Int./Advanced)

Challenge yourself with this popular deep water aerobics class. This class focuses on building endurance during an intense total body workout. Participants should be comfortable swimming in deep water. Appropriate for competitive or serious recreational athletes.

Joint Mobility (Beginner)

We know that many may be recovering from joint injuries, and we wish to accommodate your needs. This class will have you leaving the pool feeling more relaxed and energized.

Flex & Stretch (Beginner)

For those feeling the need to increase their flexibility and muscle longevity, but have tried every Yoga and Pilates class without feeling very inspired, we offer Flex & Stretch. This class allows you to work on these skills in an aquatic setting. Flex & Stretch is taught exclusively in our warm water therapy pool, and will emphasize basic body movement and flexing in an aquatic setting. Through the class, we hope to teach you new ways to increase your limberness while also providing you a chance to get in some much needed time in the water.

Water Exercise (Beginner)

If you’ve always wanted to take a water aerobics class, but are intimidated by the automatic know-how of your classmates as they follow the class leader’s seemingly baffling instructions, we offer a beginning Water Exercise class designed as an introduction to aerobic fitness. These classes will teach you the technical terms and general skills used in most water aerobics programs, as well as provide a fun and relaxed learning environment. Join us, and we will give you the tools you need to become the water aerobics master you’ve always known you can be.

Water Running Class

Our Water Running class is a no-impact alternative to land running. Our licensed physical therapists and certified aquatic instructors will give you a workout that engages all the same muscles as land running, all in a fun and easygoing setting. Lifeguarding at the Presidio Community YMCA

Want to be a lifeguard?

Every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger. Drowning is the sixth leading cause of unintentional injury death for people of all ages, and the second leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 14 years.*

These daunting statistics motivate our lifeguarding staff on a daily basis. If you are ready to learn skills that you can take with you for the rest of your life, become a YMCA Lifeguard. Our training courses use techniques endorsed by the American Heart Association, and upon completion, you will be certified in American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR/AED/Oxygen training and American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid, as well as our specified YMCA Lifeguarding course.
