Description
General Function
This position is responsible for helping to maintain a safe, clean environment; ensuring a high level of program quality and working to establish a positive relationship with all program participants and their families. The teacher will provide a positive role model to children within the philosophy of YMCA standards and expectations with emphasis on character counts philosophy. This will be done under the direction of the Child Care Director. Other responsibilities include planning and implementing all daily activities for the participants.
The Teacher must have ability, physically and mentally, to:
1. Lead and participate in active sports and games with children
2. Monitor behavior requiring physical separation
3. Plan and carry out monthly curriculum and planned activities
4. Respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in an emergency situations
5. Adequately observe participants’ activities and enforce safety regulations
Skills and Requirements
Know How
1. Must be a highs school graduate or equivalent
2. Must have 12 core units in ECE

• Curriculum
• Principles and Practices
• Infant teachers must also have Infant growth and development
*You may be hired with 6 ECE units, you must enroll and complete 2units a semester until you have completed 12 ECE units to become a fully qualified teacher
Requirements
1. Minimum 18 years of age
2. Current YMCA approved first aid certification*
3. Current YMCA approved CPR certification*
*Necessity and timing determined by branch
Essential Functions
1. Support the mission of the Peninsula Family YMCA and the YMCA of San Francisco.
2. Under the direction of Child Development Director or Associate Director, help to plan and implement Developmentally Appropriate, anti-bias curriculum that best meets the needs of the individual child in regards to cultural, developmental and socioeconomic background
3. Prepare input on individual assessments of children in order to individualize curriculum
4. Establishes rapport with parents, and participates in parent education/events
5. Submits any reports and updates log book within the day of the relevant event
6. Assists with and participates in recreational activities on and off site.
7. Participates in site, department, branch and association events
8. Preparation of needed materials for daily activities
9. Helps to maintain a clean and orderly site
10. Follows and maintain center program guidelines, objectives and goals
11. Behaves in a manner consistent with YMCA standards and goals
12. Attends all staff meetings
13. Assists in planning and participates in all family events
14. Attends all mandatory department, branch and association training’s, events and conferences
15. Ensures body, mind, spirit as well as the YMCA’s core values of respect, responsibility, caring and honesty is utilized in all aspects of the programs activities.
16. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency procedures. Completes incident reports as necessary.
17. Demonstrate the "Character Counts" values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all your dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
18. Participate in training and abides by the "New Perspectives" guidelines for the YMCA of San Francisco.
19. All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
