Job
Description: Provide encouragement, leadership, and sport specific
instruction for children ages 5-12.
Qualifications: Knowledge of specific sport, patience, and
the ability to promote team spirit along with the YMCA's youth sports
philosophy that "Every Child is a Winner." Must submit to fingerprint
screening.
Training: Provided by the YMCA.
This position is available to adults, seniors, and teens 15 years
or older.

Swim Lesson Assistant

Job Description: Assist the aquatics staff in delivering
a safe, effective aquatics program. Provides water assistance to
the swim instructor during instruction of water orientation, water
safety, and stroke development.
Qualifications: Must be motivated, outgoing, patient, and
enjoy working with children. Helpful to have current CPR/First-Aid
and WSI certification, but not required.
Training: Provided by the YMCA.

Building Futures Youth Mentor

Time Commitment: 1-3 hours each week with child (schedule
established between mentor and child), and one 1-hour mentor support meeting per month.
Job Description: To provide youth in-need with positive attention, strong role models, life coaching, encouragement, support, safe, fun recreation.
Qualifications: An interest in counseling and mentoring with
a sincere desire to work with youth. The ability to make a one-year commitment to a youth.
No prior felony convictions. Must complete a fingerprint screening and provide proof of auto insurance (if car is owned). Mentors must be at least 23 years old.
Training: Mentors are required to attend a 4-week training
course (3 hours per week) including counseling, communication, and relationship building skills, family systems and dynamics, and ethical issues related to the mentoring relationship.

T.E.A.C.H. Teaching Everyone About Changing Habits
(Formerly YARP)

Time Commitment: 1 hour, 1 evening a week from September
through June.
Job Description: Provide one-on-one tutoring and mentoring
to at-risk teens between the ages of 13 and 17. Position works in
a team environment with trained staff and other volunteers.
Qualifications: A true interest in working with at-risk teens,
and the ability to teach a variety of academic subjects, particularly
math and English. Patience is a must. Creativity and a sense of
humor a plus. Must submit to fingerprint screening.
Training: Training in academic tutoring and working with
youth at risk issues will be provided by both the San Mateo School
District and YARP.

Special Events Assistant

event tasks including planning, set-up and event day support.
