Description
To serve as a voting member of the Mission YMCA Board of Managers with responsibility to develop policies, procedures and guidelines for the conduct of the Mission YMCA. To raise funds through personal contributions and participation in the annual Community Support Campaign and other special fundraising events. To support the mission of the YMCA by representing the interest of all Members and Guests. The Mission Board reports to the San Francisco Association Board.
Skills and Requirements
TERM:
Three years with terms ending in June.
MEETING ATTENDANCE:
Monthly Board Meetings 10 per year
Board Member Retreat 1 per year
Ad Hoc Committees As needed
Special Events As announced
SPECIFIC DUTIES
1. Attendance at board meetings; continuity of attendance and participation as a policy maker and planner is the most important part of the job. Accept leadership roles on the board and/or committees.
2. Become a financial supporter of the YMCA.
3. Assume a leadership role in the Community Support Campaign. Board members will commit to “give or get” a minimum of $1,000.00.
4. Represent the YMCA at community events as needed.
5. Be informed about YMCA policies and programs.
6. Ensure the financial success of the YMCA.
7. Represent the needs of Members and Guests that participate in the YMCA and the needs of the community in which the Mission YMCA provides programs and services.
8. Ensure the continuation of the Mission YMCA by participating in the short and long term planning processes.
9. Volunteer at a program or special event a minimum of 1 per year.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
1. High standing among the members of his/her business or profession.
2. A respected citizen in the community.
3. The willingness to state one's convictions -- and equally the willingness to accept the majority decision when in conflict with one's own stand.
4. Relate openly and directly with staff and other board members or volunteers on all key issues.
5. Acceptance of the principles of the mission of the YMCA.
