Running Club Coach

Dan DeSaussure

I started running in the summer of 2003 as a way to get in shape. Though purely a fitness thing at first, I am now motivated by the feeling I get from running, the interest and motivation it can generate in other people, and my accomplishing goals within my running hobby. My favorite race so far has easily been the Boston Marathon, where the crowd support and sheer energy the race created was breathtaking. For a first race I would highly recommend the tradition and beauty of running the Eugene Marathon and half marathon in Oregon. Very few things beat finishing on Heyward field. I am currently training in the Brooks Adrenaline 10 for some medial support, and racing in the Brookst-5 racer or Nike air zoom marathoner depending on the race. A good racing flat, while not essential, can help the more goal orientated intermediate level runner. In the short term, I am shooting to break 1:22 in the half marathon and 3:00 in the full marathon this fall/ winter. In the long term I would love to run the five marathon majors (Boston, New York, Chicago, London, Berlin), and maybe make the jump to ultra marathons. “Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl when you must, just never give up!” –Dean Karnazes, “Run Happy!” –Brooks
