AQUATICS DIRECTOR

General Function:
Under the direction of the Senior Physical Director, the Associate Aquatic Director manages the operations and programs of the Aquatic Department in accordance with the purposes and policies of the Branch and Association.

Requirements:


  • The ability to work closely with exempt, non exempt, and volunteer staff in identifying and developing aquatic programs and services to meet the goals and objectives of the branch and association.
  • The candidate must possess a variety of skills to include leadership development, communication, program management, fiscal management, program promotion, program planning and administration, pool operations, and the recruitment, training and evaluation of paid and volunteer staff.
  • The candidate must also be able to delegate appropriate responsibilities involved with the day to day operations of the aquatic facility.
  • Supervise, direct or guide all operations with knowledge of the branches and associations long and short-range goals.
  • This position requires an undergraduate degree with 2-4 years experience in the area of aquatic program management.
  • Must have the following current certifications: YMCA Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Title 22. Additional certification desired: Lifeguard Instructor, CPR for the Professional Rescuer Instructor, Title 22 Instructor, Preschool Swim Instructor, Youth and Adult Swim Instructor, Pool Operator, and trainer level certification in at least one YMCA aquatic program.


Essential Functions:
1. Directs all operations of aquatic programs and facility.

2. Oversee the development and administration of the two aquatic budgets.

3. Provide training for paid and volunteer staff as an ongoing career development program.

4. Responsible for the Aquatic Sub Committee of the Health and Fitness Committee, and staff liaison to Health and Fitness Committee.

5. Employs, hires, and appraises necessary employee within budget limitations.

6. Assist in the coordination of the teams portion of the Community Support Campaign.

7. Assure that the aquatic programs have well-planned recruitment and retention plans.

CHILD CARE DIRECTOR

General Function:
Under the supervisor of the Youth Program Director this position is responsible for developing, maintaining and operating preschool and after-school programs. All programs will be administered in a manner, which is consistent with YMCA goals and policies. All employees working or visiting a facility where minors are present and considered having a supervisory or disciplinary relationship over minors.

Requirements:


  • Must have site director qualifications (E.C.E. units)
  • Four years minimum working in a licensed child care facility
  • First Aid and CPR certificate
    Preferred to have a class B drivers license
  • Physical ability to lead and participate in active sports and games with children, monitor behavior requiring physical separation and participate in curriculum activities and housekeeping responsibilities.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in a emergency situation.
  • Ability to adequately observe participants activities, enforces safety regulations, and applies appropriate management techniques.


Essential Functions:
1. Develop and implement anti-bias curriculum for sites and supervises staff in planning weekly lesson plans that best meet the needs of the individual child in regards to cultural, developmental, and socioeconomic background.

2. Reviews completed lesson plans and calendars for all sites monthly.

3. Plan and implement long range goals for program development and over all development of the after school and preschool programs.

4. Schedules and directs substitute staff when necessary. Orients new staff to the regular routines, the children, the material, and the general YMCA program philosophy.

5. Consults with the Program Director about serious problems that might have to be referred to an outside agency.

6. Establish rapport with parents, communicate events and activities, plan parent/teacher conferences, and parent participation with special events, parent education through planned events.

7. Facilitates a Parent Advisory Counsel in accordance with the goals of the Youth Department with the assistance of the Youth and Family Services Director.

8. Meets biweekly with Youth and Family Services Director.

9. Attends all staff meetings, and recommended training programs and conferences.

10. Responsible for maintaining program, budgets, and staff of all after school and preschool programs.

11. Supervise site directors and teachers to ensure quality daily administration, program planning and implementation, and staff/child ratios.

12. Performs hiring, reviewing, and planning on-going training for staff with the assistance of the Program Director.

13. Meets monthly with staff to convey information regarding their program and YMCA news.

14. Liaison with school faculty and district office, and licensing to ensure current permits and licenses as needed.

15. Develop, plan, and implement strategy for new sites and program growth.

16. Promotes YMCA after school and preschool program in community through appropriate use of newsletters, posters, and flyers.

17. Develop and implement marketing plan to promote program to increase enrollment and increase visibility in the community.

18. Involvement in Child Care sub-committee of Youth Cabinet as well as task groups from youth program committee as necessary.

19. Conducts self and site in manner consistent with YMCA goals and standards.

HEALTH AND FITNESS DIRECTOR

General Function:
As a member of the YMCA Health & Fitness Department, the Health And Fitness Director is responsible for member involvement and satisfaction as they participate in YMCA programs and activities. It is their responsibility to provide an environment in which members and guests establish and exhibit the Character Counts values. It is their responsibility to provide an environment in which all members and guest can develop their spirit, mind and body through their involvement with YMCA programs and facilities.


Requirements:


  • Current certifications in CPR and First Aid
  • Extensive training and experience in the health and fitness field including administration, staff development, and program management
  • Excellent member relation and customer service skills.
  • You must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job; that being to lead and manage the staff and activities of the YMCA fitness center.


Essential Functions:
1. Ensure a clean, safe, comfortable and enjoyable environment for members and guests while they are participating in Health & Fitness programs.

2. Create and implement an equipment preventive maintenance schedule to guarantee that all fitness equipment is functioning properly at all times.

3. Assess, improve and expand existing health and fitness programs based on member and staff feedback.

4. Educate staff to record all accident/incident reports, and participant statistics, etc. as required by your supervisor.

5. Ensure adequate and proper staffing of the fitness center at all times.

6. Ensure that staff is either directly involved with assisting members or they are roaming the fitness center, constantly observing member activity and assisting where needed.

7. Train staff to educate members and guests in the ways of exercise and fitness when called upon and when they observe incorrect or dangerous performance.

8. Model the Character Counts values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility and work to develop these values in all members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.

9. Attend all meetings and training sessions as mandated by your supervisor.

10. All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

11. Understand and abide by the New Perspective guidelines for the YMCA of San Francisco.


HEALTH AND FITNESS INSTRUCTOR

General Function:
As a member of the YMCA Health and Fitness Department, the Fitness Instructor is responsible for providing members and guests with a safe, effective, and enjoyable exercise program while responding to member needs as they relate to their involvement with the Health and Fitness program areas.

Requirements:


  • Minimum age of 18
  • Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and YMCA Exercise Instructor (or comparable certification)
  • Excellent member relation and customer service skills.
  • You must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job; that being to lead members and guests through a safe, effective and enjoyable exercise class.


Essential Functions:
1. Provide a clean, safe, comfortable and enjoyable environment for our members and guests while they are participating in YMCA Health and Fitness programs.

2. Follow the protocol of your certifying agency, the YMCA of San Francisco, and the YMCA of the USA.

3. Be knowledgeable of the most up-to-date exercise and fitness principles and practices.

4. Attend all meetings and training sessions as mandated by your supervisor.

5. Record all accident/incident reports, and participant statistics, etc. as required by your supervisor.

6. Arrive on the fitness floor ready to work, on time, dressed in your uniform, and in possession of all necessary equipment.

7. Arrange for a substitute and inform your supervisor if you are not able to work your scheduled shifts.

8. Meet with members and guest before or after class and assist them in addressing their exercise questions and issues.

9. Educate members and guests in the ways of exercise and fitness, when called upon and when you observe incorrect or dangerous performance.

10. Demonstrate the Character Counts values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all your dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.

11. All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

LIFEGUARD

General Function:
As a member of the YMCA Aquatic Department, the Lifeguard is responsible for providing members and guests with a safe, clean, and enjoyable setting while responding to member needs as they relate to use of the aquatic program areas.

Requirements:


  • Minimum age of 18
  • Current certifications in CPR for the Professional, Title 22, YMCA or ARC Lifeguarding
  • Excellent member relation and customer service skills
  • Ability to save lives and responds effectively to emergency situations in and around the pool.
  • You must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job; that being to prevent accidents and provide assistance should an emergency situation arise.


Essential Functions:
1. Provide a clean, safe, comfortable and enjoyable environment for our members while they are using the YMCA aquatic program area.

2. Follow the protocol of their certifying agency, the YMCA of San Francisco, and the YMCA of the USA.

3. To be knowledgeable of lifeguarding regulations established by the YMCA of the USA, American Red Cross, YMCA of San Francisco, and the State of California, reporting any problems to the Aquatic Director.

4. To be knowledgeable of all pool equipment and ensure that they are working properly, and report any problems to the Maintenance Department and/or Aquatic Director.

5. Attend all meetings and training sessions as mandated by your supervisor.

6. Record chemical readings, water temperature, pool inspections, accident/incident reports, and participant statistics, etc. as spelled out by your supervisor.

7. Arrive on the pool deck ready to work, on time, dressed in your uniform, and in possession of all necessary equipment.

8. Arrange for a substitute and inform your supervisor if you are not able to work one of your scheduled shifts.

9. Keep your full attention on the pool and its occupants at all times as you sit in the guard chair or walk around the pool perimeter.

10. Demonstrate the Character Counts values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all your dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.

11. All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

12. Understands and abides by the New Perspective guidelines for the YMCA of San Francisco.

SWIM INSTRUCTOR

General Function:
As a member of the YMCA Aquatic Department, the Aquatic Instructor is responsible for providing members and guests with a safe, effective, and enjoyable water exercise program while responding to member needs as they relate to their participation in the aquatic program.

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Current certifications in CPR, First Aid and YMCA Water Exercise Instructor
  • Excellent member relation and customer service skills
  • Ability to lead a safe, effective and enjoyable water exercise class for people of all fitness levels and abilities.
  • You must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job
  • That being to lead members and guests through a safe, effective and enjoyable water exercise class.
