AmeriCorps wraps up a four week job with YMCA Camp Jones Gulch

AmeriCorps Departs

After four weeks with YMCA Camp Jones Gulch, the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) is packing up our bags and finishing some last-minute tasks before moving onto our next assignment.

We have thoroughly enjoyed all of our adventures at Camp Jones Gulch. Staying at the Lower Outpost campsite, without access to modern technology, was a great way to unwind and focus on what was really important in our lives. Working with the Adventure Guides gave us a chance to meet the people the YMCA directly serves, and trail-building really strengthened our hard work ethic, determination, and muscles.

In the four weeks our team of nine was here, we completed several tasks, including: mulching the ropes course trails; leveling, widening, and putting in steps on seven trails; building two platforms and set up semi-permanent tents for a new campsite; painting approximately 50 bunk beds; and removing a tree that had fallen over a road and trail.

We have been honored to be a part of the Camp Jones Gulch community. The program coordinators, naturalists, maintenance staff, and everyone else has become something of a second family. The people we’ve met and the experiences we’ve shared have shaped us for a lifetime. We thank Camp Jones Gulch for the opportunity to serve such a fine organization!
