Description
the 21st Century grant program includes three primary components: Academics, Enrichment and Recreation operating after school-site dismissal five days a week. The program goals are to improve literacy skill levels, academic performance, and to strengthen social skills in youth. Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator at Wallenberg High School, this position is responsible for leading a variety of academic English tutorial activities in the after-school program.
Essential Functions
1. Deliver all activities in accordance with youth development principles and practices.
2. Prepare lesson plans including weekly activities and supplies.
3. Participate in agency-wide trainings to develop skills in youth development and enhance the quality of programs.
4. Participate in daily prep time to prepare for program, as well as to exchange ideas and receive program guidance.
5. Communicate progress, success, and challenges of youth to parents and families.
6. Ensure all youth are signed in and out of program appropriately.
7. Manage classroom and youth behavior in accordance with Beacon Code of Behavior and policies regarding supervision of young people.
8. Help coordinate and participate in after-school events and other school related functions.
9. Promote/outreach school related programs in school and community.
10. Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
11. Demonstrate the "Character Counts" values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all your dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
12. Participate in training and abide by the "New Perspectives" guidelines for the YMCA of San Francisco.
Skills and Requirements
Qualifications
1. Must have at least college 60 semester units or equivalent quarter units.
2. Minimum age: 21 years old.
3. Experience in school setting or after school programs.
4. Experience working with high school youth.
5. Must have proven knowledge in a variety of math subjects (i.e. algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and basic calculus).
6. Knowledge of youth development principles and practices.
7. Knowledge and familiarity with the Western Addition community is preferred.
8. Bilingual, Spanish-Speaking highly preferred.
9. Ability to work with people from a variety of ages, ethnic groups and backgrounds.
10. Ability to supervise young people.
11. Ability to be respectful and professional at all times.
12. Willingness to learn conflict mediation skills, first aid techniques, and other skills.
13. Health Screening/TB Clearance.
14. Background/Fingerprint Clearance.
15. First Aid and CPR certification.
