TLC Family Resource Center
The Bayview TLC Family Resource Center is a family supportive and empowerment program that serves as a hub for connecting families with a network of local and citywide resources.
Overall, we exist to strengthen families and prevent the risk of abuse and neglect.
Our strategies to achieve the vision are implemented with our best practice principles: family centered, strength based, needs driven, solution oriented, and community based, all of which compliment the Y’s core values.
The Child Protective Services (CPS) entries from 2007 have a total of 1,070 substantiations, 433 of which enter the system as confirmed cases. Afro-Americans represents more than half of these entries, with Hispanics a close second. Reasons for referrals are general neglect and physical abuse, with sexual abuse following closely. The FRC is meeting the CPS demands and then some – the FRC provides approximately 95 hours a week of supervised visits, with approximately 20 families visiting a week.
Thus far, from 6/14/08 to 1/23/09, we have served 63 families. Our wraparound supportive services consists of family advocacy, case management, certified parenting education classes, anger management, fatherhood support group, substance abuse support group, emergency food box, and emergency fund for (verified) struggling families, all in addition to our weekly food pantry that is serving 80 families weekly.
The TLC Family Resource Center offers many supportive services to help reunite or build stronger families.
