YMCA Activate America

YMCA Activate America™ is the YMCA’s national initiative that is rallying YMCAs across the country to further assist kids, adults and families who want to lead a healthy lifestyle, but struggle to do so. In addition to supporting this population called health seekers, YMCAs are making a commitment to their community to promote healthy living and are collaborating with other community partners to magnify their impact.

Peninsula Family YMCA is fully committed to the Activate America initiative, and is dedicated to providing kids, families, and communities with programs, facilities, and services that promote healthy living, exercise, and nutrition.

Building Futures Mentoring Program

Building Futures is a one-to-one youth mentoring program whose philosophy is, “One person can make a difference!” With the help of volunteer mentors, our community’s youth are better equipped to develop strong self-esteem, healthy relationships and personal coping skills. Program volunteers and donors are the key elements in improving these youth’s lives. To learn more about becoming a

Day Evening Weekend (D.E.W.) Center

The TEACH program has expanded from an after-school (evening) program to the day and weekend. The program is designed to provide a safe and structured environment for youth to learn life skills, improve academic performance, develop health relationships, and instill hope for their future. Youth participants in the program are referred by San Mateo County Probation. This program accepts volunteers to assist in the following program areas: academics, cooking, computer skills, career options, etc. Please contract the program coordinator to discuss the experience you can share with the youth in the D.E.W. program. Computer Clubhouse

The Computer Clubhouse, located at the YMCA’s Youth & Family Enrichment Center in Half Moon Bay, provides under-served youth with a safe, afterschool learning environment. Youth have access to high-end technology and work with mentors to create projects based on their own interests. The Computer Clubhouse is always looking for mentors to assist youth with computer skills of their own! Moonridge & Main Street Programs

Through grant funding, the Peninsula Family YMCA provides under served youth (grades K - 12) in these Half Moon Bay communities with after-school, teen and summer programs in a safe and fun learning environment. With the help of dedicated staff and volunteer tutors, youth engage in literacy-based curriculum, educational activities, games, arts and crafts, computer skills training and teen programs. Girls United of San Mateo County

The Peninsula Family YMCA operates Girls United, a therapeutic-based group at Abbott, Bayside, Borel, and Bowditch Middle Schools. The purpose of Girls United is to empower girls, encourage leadership skills, and to assist them in feeling better about themselves while being more responsible in school, peer and home environments. Girls United focuses on developing social, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills. For more information, call (650)355.3900.

The Friendship Club

Mondays 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

This group is open to elementary aged children. Participants will learn valuable social skills while engaging in fun, interactive activities. Topics include: self-esteem, communication, friendship, feelings, anger management, conflict resolution, diversity and more! The Friendship Club is designed to provide a safe and positive environment where kids can experience successful peer relationships. Group meets weekly.
