Mission YMCA programs help teens learn how to express themselves, come together for a common cause and be active and informed citizens.  The Mission YMCA provides teens the opportunity to take the lead in planning and directing their own programs, and become great youth leaders! Mission YMCA teen programs center on our Teen Club Programs, the YMCA’s statewide Youth in Government, and YMCA teen employment opportunities.

YOUTH AND GOVERNMENT

Youth and Government is a statewide program that offers youth an experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives. This mock legislature and court program teaches youth all about the ins and outs of government on every level. During a nine-month period, the teen delegates write bills on issues that are important to them, select governmental positions to role-play, attend statewide training conferences, and run for various elected offices. The program reaches its peak in Sacramento at the State Capitol with the convening of the five-day Model Legislature and Court each February. There, "real" government moves over and the teen delegates "take over," using the historic halls, chambers, and offices of our State Capitol, Supreme Court, and Governor's Office.  To find out more please visit the Youth and Government website at http://www.calymca.org/

SPRING TO SERVICE

Spring to Service is an association-wide program in collaboration with Sports for the Worlds Children, which the Mission YMCA has been actively participating in for the past three years. During Spring break high school students from San Francisco travel down to Baja to distribute sports equipment and arts n’ crafts supplies to communities. During their stay they run sports clinics and day camp with the children and families of Mexico. The YMCA participants are then responsible for bringing their experience back to San Francisco to in return help out their own communities. Each year over 2000 pounds of equipment has been distributed and life long friendships and memories have been made.
