MARIN  YMCA  PROGRAMS  FOR   ADULTS

HIKES -- The Y-Ramblers Hiking Club schedules 4 hikes each month, usually on Wednesdays, sometimes on other days.   Most are in Marin County, some are elsewhere in the Bay Area.  Hiking distances range from 2 to 6 miles, occasionally longer, and elevation gains are specified in announcements.  The degree of difficulty of each hike is indicated by a figure, on a scale of 1.0 to 5.0.  Picnic lunches are eaten somewhere along the way.  Hikers are driven to and from the hikes in YMCA vans.

CULTURE TRIPS -- We schedule four culture trips each month, usually on Fridays, to places of interest in the Bay Area, such as museums, attractions in various cities, etc.  Where possible, we arrange docent-guided tours to add interest and give depth to the outing.  Usually we take picnic lunches to eat somewhere on the trip.  Participants are driven on the trips in the YMCA bus or vans.

MIND EXERCISE CLASS -- Each Tuesday at 2 PM in the Club Room we offer a class in which it is the mind that is exercised.  The object is to challenge the mind in ways that should increase or maintain its fitness.  The current format centers on working puzzles, vocabulary, and discussing ideas.

FINANCIAL WORKSHOPS -- Each month we offer a financial workshop on the third Tuesday at 1 PM.  Subject and speaker are announced each month in the newsletter.

BRIDGE -- The Y-Adults Bridge Club meets and plays bridge each Wednesday from 9 AM to noon, in the Club Room.  Any Y member with intermediate skills may come and play.  Call Emma Owens at 479-8068, so tables of four can be arranged.

FITNESS WALKING PROGRAM -- For those who want to get/stay fit by regular, aerobic walking.  Meets each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8 AM inside the Northgate Mall, by the entrance to Mervyn's. Walking is preceded by warmup exercises, followed by pulse-taking and a cool-down regimen.  Most walkers socialize afterwards by MacDonald’s.

OLDER ADULTS FITNESS AND AEROBICS -- The Fitness Dept. conducts regular Start-Up Fitness classes at 10 AM on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays, in the gym, to meet the specific needs of seniors.  On Wednesdays a Strength Training class designed for older adults begins at 10 AM.

ARTHRITIS AQUATICS -- The Aquatics Department conducts regular, 45-minute exercise classes in the swimming pool, designed especially for people with arthritis.  Focus is on moving each joint through its range of motion. Classes are held on Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 10:15 AM, and on Tuesday & Thursday at 2 PM.  An Arthritis Plus class is held on Tuesday and Thursday at 10:15 AM.

BIKE RIDING -- Twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesdays, the adults go for bike rides somewhere in the Bay Area, meeting at announced start points.  Level, paved bike trails are preferred, from 10 - 15 mi.

COMPUTER CLUB – Meets monthly for sharing information.  See Newsletter.
