over 110 group exercise classes offered a week, offered by dedicated volunteer instructors, there is something
for everyone at the Embarcadero YMCA. From the very basic step aerobics
classes to the high-energy cardio-kickboxing classes, all fitness
levels are represented and accommodated. Aqua Fitness classes are

Athletics/Sports
Boot Camp - Intermediate/Advanced
Levels
A
high energy, total body conditioning class that incorporates sport-specific
drills designed to challenge participants' strength, endurance,
power, agility and balance.
Urban Boot Camp - All Levels
Get ready for a serious workout! Get some sun and test your limits
in the urban jungle. (Spring/Summer only)
Cardio Kickboxing - All Levels
Elements
of martial arts, boxing and conditioning are combined for a fast,
high-intensity workout. No experience is necessary.
BOSU™
BOSU™ is a dome-shaped device that challenges your balance while providing cardiovascular, strength and agility training. Try any of our new classes from specially trained instructors.
BOSU Core (all levels)
Define and target the core muscle groups of the back, chest, abdominal, hips and shoulders with challenging exercises.
BOSU Abs Blast (all levels)
Strengthen and define your abdominal muscles through a wider range of motion that the BOSU provides. Do better crunches than on the stability ball!
BOSU Strength (all levels)
A total body, muscle-conditioning exercise using your own body weight or hand-held weights in stable or unstable positions.
BOSU Boot Camp (intermediate/advanced)
This class tests your agility, strength and speed in athletic drills designed to train your sense of balance, a sense very necessary in any sport.
Group
Cycling
Cycle - All Levels
Indoor Cycling incorporates the physiological and biomechanical science of cycling with the motivational techniques of sports psychology to bring aerobic and anaerobic training to a whole new level. Capacity is limited to 20 participants.
Cycle+ - Intermediate/Advanced Levels
An
extra 15 minutes for one full hour of power-packed intervals, aggressive
hill climbs, and drills that will push you to your endurance edge.

Dance
Belly Dancing - All Levels (Currently suspended)
Based on traditional Eqyptian-style belly dancing, this fitness class utilizes hip, abdominal, low back and leg movement to tone and strengthen the body all while having fun! No experience is required.
Dance Aerobics - Advanced Level
If you like Hip Hop, Jazz and Funk, this is a class for you. Participants work through intricate, pre-choreographed dance routines that are learned by regular attendance.
FitRhythms™ - All Levels (Currently suspended)
Passionate play and serious fun are the key ingredients to this creative dance low to moderate workout and music making using hand-held instruments. No wrong beats, no wrong moves, and no cute outfits to participate but bring your sweat and spirit.
Hip Hop - All Levels
Have fun and get healthy with this urban dance workout using today's latest dance club moves and pop music. Movements are broken down. Jazz shoes are not mandatory.
Salsa Moves - All Levels
Learn simple salsa steps in a follow the leader format for those who love to move to a Latin beat.
Body Conditioning
Lengthen, Strengthen & Relax
Round out your workout program with this relaxing and invigorating class. Formerly known as PACE, this low impact workout focuses on improving range of motion by strengthening and lengthening major muscle groups. Exercises are based on techniques derived from Pilates, the Arthritis Foundation, Feldenkris and Active Isolated Stretching. Wheelchair accessible.
BodyWorx All classes suitable for all levels.
Y-Flex is a general term to indicate one of a variety of conditioning classes that may use bands, free weights, or physio-balls. The specific type of conditioning class is given in the schedule.
AbWorks: A quick workout that will strengthen and define your core muscles.
Circuit: Rapid, multiple iterations of the same set of exercises provides both a cardiovascular and body conditioning workout.
Upper Body/Back: A training class emphasizing stability and strength for the upper body or back. Includes abs.
Total Body: Increase your muscle endurance and tone your whole body with this resistance training class that also incorporates core stability exercises.
Killer Sculpt: Power-packed resistance training in 15 minutes.
Pilates
Pilates can complement your current workout or any sport - cycling, basketball, weight training, group exercise classes, running, swimming, and more. Our CORE, the muscles surrounding the abdomen and back, is active in just about everything we do - sitting, standing, bending, and twisting. Pilates increases core strength and stability while working the entire body. This mat class will strengthen and lengthen your body through a series of exercises. You'll see an improvement in posture, release tension in joints, and enhance your flexibility and coordination.Visit the Pilates page.
Step Aerobics A high-energy, low-impact workout which includes the use of Step Reebok benches.
Step Basics - All Levels
You will learn some interesting uncomplicated step routines, vocabulary and techniques. Great for beginners.
Interval - Int/Adv Levels
A challenging workout that alternates step moves with strength and power moves.
Step Intermediate - Intermediate Level
If you have the basic techniques down, this will be a step up!
Stepography - Advanced Level
A step workout emphasizing cardiovascular endurance through continuous, high-intensity choreography.
Aqua Fitness
A no-impact cardio or resistance training workout located on our 2nd floor 25x25 meter Activity Pool which is only a little over 5' deep.
Aqua Fitness - All Levels
A non-choreography based workout using the properties of water to resist or assist the workout. Sometimes the participants use buoyancy devices like water noodles or water bells.
Aqua Aerobics - All Levels
A fun workout emphasizing cardiovascular endurance through continuous choreography.
Modified Aqua Aerobics - Beginner Level
This aqua fitness workout is modified for beginners or people with limited mobility.
Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Exercise - Beginner Level
This special monthly series is designed for clients with arthritis and referred by the Arthritis Foundation. A small fee is required to participate. Please sign up at the membership services desk. for more info click here.
