Lap Pool Policies
- Communicate with the other swimmers in your lane to avoid collisions and injuries.
- Lanes are divided into Fast, Medium and Slow speeds. Please swim in the lane most appropriate to your speed. Swimmers may be asked by a Lifeguard to change lanes during higher usage times.
- Two people sharing a lane may split the lane, each swimmer staying on one side of the center line.

- Swimmers can share a lane by circle swimming with swimmers staying to the right and swimming in a counter clockwise circular pattern.
- The maximum lap swimmers allowed per lane is 5 except during a scheduled coached workout.
- If a swimmer is following closely behind you, stop at the wall and let them pass. If a swimmer is unaware that you are trying to pass, tap them gently on the foot and pass when you reach the wall.
- Participants must be able to swim a full length to use lanes designated for lap swim. Please stop only at lane ends.
- Some lanes may be closed for programs. Please see the schedule for details.

Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Exercise
- The YMCA and the Arthritis Foundation co-developed this national program where physical activity classes are designed for persons with arthritis, suffering from musculoskeletal pain, or who have difficulty with weight bearing exercise to improve their range of motion and muscular strength. In each class, an Arthritis Foundation trained and certified instructor leads exercises for all the joints as well as walking and other endurance activities.
- Classes are free to members or for a monthly program fee to non-members and meet on Wednesday from 2 to 3pm and Saturday from 12:15 to 1:15pm in the activity pool. Members can just show up a few minutes before the class begins. Non-members should contact the membership desk or Ross Goo at rgoo@ymcasf.org or 415-615-1336, for more information.
