The Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA
Welcome to the Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA in the heart of the City of San Francisco. Replacing the original YMCA of San Francisco which was destroyed in the earthquake of 1906, the Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA has been open daily at the corner of Golden Gate Avenue and Leavenworth Street since Thanksgiving Day, 1910. In his remarks while laying the cornerstone for the Central YMCA on October 5, 1909, United States President William Howard Taft called the YMCA a "Character Factory," as it shaped the spirit, mind, and body of men and boys in San Francisco.
Since the Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA opened its doors it has offered programs in health and fitness, education, community-building, leadership development, volunteerism, and wellness, each and every day. Guests and members of the Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA today participate in dozens of group exercise classes, work out in our state of the art health and fitness facilities, swim laps and participate in classes in our indoor pool, and enjoy a diverse and welcoming community. A premium European-style budget hotel which welcomes international and domestic guests year-round, and our Central Cafe which offers nutritious and economical meals to members and guests serve the Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA and the community at large. An inclusive community, the Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA has programs and memberships to fit many budgets and lifestyles, including a Senior Center and a Youth Center. To the extent made possible by generous donors, financial assistance is available to many members.
