Resident Camp at Camp Jones Gulch
Camp is divided according to age and gender. Each group has a program specifically tailored for that age and ability. Campers will sometimes interact with other age groups, as well as those of their own age.
Pioneers: For children entering grades 3-4 (ages 8-9), this program is the ideal first step into overnight camping. Campers are encouraged to develop a greater sense of belonging with greater individual attention. Within the security of a smaller cabin group, and with the guidance of their counselor, these younger campers begin to develop their social skills.
Explorers: This camping group is for those children entering grades 5-6 (ages 10-11), and is a continuing step in developing a sense of self-responsibility and appreciation of others. Campers are encouraged to accept an added sense of responsibility through more challenging activities.
Questors: A special program for youth entering grades 7-8 (ages 12-13). The Questor program provides new challenges and experiences in learning. Campers must enroll in specialty units which include horseback riding, sports, dance, surfing, rock climbing, mountain biking, or drama. Campers learn specific skills and techniques in the specialty of their choice while also enjoying the outdoor experience of camp and camp activities. Rangers: This is a new program for teens entering grades 9-10 (ages 14-15). The Ranger program gives older campers the opportunity to challenge and experience camp. Rangers must enroll in a Specialty Unit which include horseback riding, sports, dance, surfing, rock climbing, mountain biking, or drama. Campers learn specific skills and techniques in the specialty of their choice while also enjoying the outdoor experience of camp and camp activities.
C.I.T.s: Our Counselor In Training program is designed to build campers into counselors and teens into leaders. A two-week session allows C.I.T.s to learn and practice their leadership skills during a week of team-building and training, then practice their skills working with young campers during the second week.
