Hayward Rec Connect

The Rec Connect Initiative was created to provide a vibrant community hub for San Francisco families.  It is a public-private partnership, sponsored by the Department of Children Youth and Families and the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, and Community Based Organizations.  In our case, the Buchanan YMCA and Ella Hill Hutch Community Center are partners in this unique opportunity.  We are pleased to announce that the Hamilton Rec Connect program will be moving to Margaret Hayward Playground, due to Hamilton's rennovation schedule. We provide free enrichment programs for youth and families and are charged with designing and implementing recreational programs which serve children, youth, and families in a welcoming, healthy, and safe environment. Programming will begin mid-November.

All programming for the Hayward Rec Connect is free.  Programs which are ran exclusively by the Recreation and Parks Department may have a nominal fee.  We offer programs for mothers, toddlers/preschoolers, families, youth, teens and seniors.  Everyone is welcome!

Inquires should be sent to Melissa Langness or call (415) 292-2008, (415) 756-9869.

Announcing Handful Players Spring free after-school musical theatre program

Our free after-school program meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6pm at the Buchanan YMCA and will have staged performances. The after-school program is taught by theatre professionals, each experienced in working with kids, and includes workshops on storytelling, acting, music, dance, costume and set design, ultimately culminating in a staged performance.  Handful Players’ mission is to help youth find their creative voices, build self-esteem and learn skills for getting ahead in life. The program is designed for children ages 10-18; no experience is necessary and children with limited performing skills are welcome.  Contact Melissa Langness at mlangness@ymcasf.org or 415-756-9869.
